Based on the YOUR leader award we offer training for primary aged children to take on the role of Playleaders or Sportsleaders within school.

School Sports Organising Crew

A SSOCrew provides a structured and meaningful mechanism for young people to:

  • Contribute to decisions about sporting activities and sports competition in their school.
  • Engage in aspects of school life outside timetabled lessons.
  • Air views and have opinions listened to.
  • Influence and shape school sport for their peers.
  • Assist in the development and planning of 'their' Sainsbury's School Games programme of activities — based on student voice and need.
  • Organise intra-school competitions within their school.
  • Be valued and seen as an integral part of the workforce.

Secondary

School Sport Organising Committee

  • A School Sport Organising Committee (SSOC) is a diverse group of young people that represent all aspects of school life who join together to develop, organise and promote school sport and Level 1 of the Sainsbury's School Games.
  • You will be an essential part of the team working with your teachers to organise the Sainsbury's School Games in your school.
  • You will have developed and put into practice a range of life and employability skills such as fact finding, marketing, organisation and teamwork.
  • You will be confident to work with teachers to organise and develop the Sainsbury's School Games and school sport.

Young Leaders Training

National Governing Body Training

The School Sports Partnership offer training each year for determined young leaders to take the next step in their development by focusing on a specific sport. Training for 2015 is on February 12th, please speak to your Head of Department to book a place.

County Young Coach Academy

The aim of the County Young Coach Academy (CYCA) is to identify, support and develop our coaches of the future by offering a programme of training, personal development and mentoring support delivered by experienced coaches.  Any young person aged 15+ who would be interested in joining contact: Nina Sweetland via email on: nsweetland@shlacademy.org or via mobile on: 07961074592.

School Games Qualification Day

Training will be held this year to support those leaders that will be leading or officiating at the L3 County School Games. Training will be at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on the 1st December. Please speak to your Head of Department to book a place.

Sports Ambassadors

The Young Ambassador programme seeks to develop young leaders and volunteers by giving them the responsibility of being an ambassador for PE and school sport. In many schools the role is held in the same esteem as a Head Boy or Head Girl, and the individual will form a vital link between the students, teachers, School Games Organisers.

A Young Ambassador's role is to:

  • increase participation and healthy lifestyles in schools
  • promote the Olympic and Paralympic values
  • be a role model and advocate for sporting activity
  • be the young peoples' voice on PE and school sport in their schools and communities

The programme has a five tier structure, providing a pathway for progression.
